COMOX VALLEY DISCOVERY CENTRE - Cumberland, BC

Blair Pettis was appointed Project Manager on behalf of the Comox Valley Economic Development Society to implement the design and construction of a 6,800 sq. ft. Visitor Centre and Exhibition Hall with a budget of $3.745 M. The project was fast tracked to meet crucial cash flow funding deadlines. Fletcher Pettis was responsible for the selection of the consultant team to design the building. A significant part of this project is the co-ordination of the design, tender and implementation of the exhibit component.

To achieve strict budget requirements and to expedite the project, a construction management approach was selected. The project was started in February, 2010; completed in August, 2011 and received two awards from the Vancouver Island Real Estate Board Commercial Building Awards program - Best New Building for 2012 and Award of Excellence for the Institutional category. The project is comprised of the Visitor Centre, Exhibition Hall and the Roy Creek headwater environmental lands. Sustainability features in the building include a green roof, alternative energy sources and water conservation features.
