Phoenix Middle School Seismic Upgrade
Campbell River, BC

Fletcher Pettis Consultants Ltd was Project Manager for the development, design and implementation of this $8 million structural seismic upgrade. The project consisted of upgrading stack block masonry walls with reinforced concrete shear walls, and upgrading steel connections within the structure. The project included the replacement of the entire roof area for $2 million applying seismic strapping and reinforcing before applying a metal and sbs roof. The appearance of the structure was greatly improved with the use of form liners for the concrete shear walls. Form liners were used to allow walls to appear as if they were masonry block vice a single poured wall. Custom liners were used to apply the school logo to the school. Nonstructural upgrades to lights and mechanical units were also completed as part of the project.

The project was completed ahead of schedule and utilizing a construction management delivery process enabled the project to be completed $2.8 million under budget. This saving enabled the client to initiate another seismic upgrade on another school. The project was completed in January, 2015.
